The New Media

Recently Elder M. Russel Ballard, and Apostle of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gave some talks in which he highlighted the importance of spreading accurate information about the church through the internet. He urged members to set up blogs, and engage in other online activity, discussions and so forth. Through these outlets we can share testimonies, answer questions, disseminate media, and serve to balance out the overwhelmingly critical and negative voices that abound regarding Mormonism.

I've been tossing some ideas around as to how I can contribute (e.g. a gospel oriented blog, becoming a regular contributor to some bigger & better blog, serving as a responder to questions on church websites, you can even do MTC online chat now for those in the Provo/Orem area). I'd be interested if any of you have had any success with this, or if you have any suggestions.

I thought I'd pass along an interesting link. It seems the leaders of the church are taking their own advice. Check it out: http://blog.moregoodfoundation.org/224. The link Elder Nelson refers to is JesusChrist.lds.org.

There are two large aggregators of Mormon blogs you might want to check out at ldsblogs.org and mormonblogs.org. I would look around and get a feel for what's already there before you proceed with creating your own blog.

Nat,

Thanks for the link. I was surprised by how many videos the Church has uploaded. I'm hoping one day that Elder Ballard or someone will create their own personal blog. That would be cool.

Anyways, I've enjoyed having my own blog. Chris has some good advice, though.

I had the pleasure of meeting your-mother-in-law the other day- we are neighbors- small world huh? I couldn't help but wonder who would ever marry Nat- certainly not I. It got me thinking that all of us from Jersey seemed to get better than we deserved. That is more descriptive of me than anyone else. Unlike you I haven't kept up with any of the gang (i.e. the links to Elise/Kristina/and Heather- I observe that you have managed to keep up with the Jersey Girls and not Ryan or myself- it's equally my fault).
I can't stand Provo thus never wanted to visit you all. But I do think of you all often. Feel free to visit my blog- I work under an pseudonym and you must not divulge who I truly am- the world wide web is a scary place. Also I don't have lofty goals as your blog- I post to make laughs and drive discussion. Sometimes I post about the family but it really is more about rants of mine. My wife's blog is a bit more geared toward the family. Are family all live apart and blogging is how we stay in the game. It is our trans continental version of family home evening. From what it sounds like you will be apart as well leaving what I have found to love- Utah. There can't be any excuses for not keeping in touch now.

PS: It would be a pleasure to physically see you so if you ever find yourself at your in-laws you must stop and visit- I wouldn't forgive you otherwise. Your Grant is adorable. We sure are all blessed.

This has nothing to do with the post, but it's important.

Tenille is officially HONK worthy! (There were actually like 5 honks)

You'd better watch out, Nat!
